Resort & Location

A typical Savoyard village complete with charming old farms and flower adorned chalets, Verchaix is ideally placed on the south facing side of the Giffre valley, situated at an altitude of 788m. Verchaix is within close proximity of major towns such as Annecy (60 km), Geneva (50km), Chamonix (62 km) and Cluses (18km).

Summer at Le VuAirNeige Summer in Verchaix

We believe the name of “Verchaix” derives from old vineyards; workers in these vineyards climbed “vers les chais” to tidy and store their tools. The 565 inhabitants of Verchaix are referred to as the l’hottis - the name given to the basket the wine-workers used to collect their grapes and work the terrain.

The village is small and quiet with lovely views of the Giffre valley and Grand Massif opposite. There is a footpath that leads down from the chalet hotel to the valley below. The ski bus terminus is 50m from the chalet hotel and connects with the télécabine of Morillon just 10 minutes away. From Morillon one can also access the Grand Massif ski area and the resorts of Flaine, Les Carroz, Samoëns and Sixt. Alternatively, the same journey takes just 5 minutes by car, with free parking in front of the chalet hotel and by the telecabine in Morillon. Nearby is the traditional Savoyard village of Samoëns offering shops, bars restaurants and high speed access to the ski area with the new Grand Massif express gondola. Samoëns is the only ski resort to be inside a French National Park.
